This flag was flown in the 1760’s in protest of colonial treatment. The original flag had nine vertical stripes representing the nine protesting colonies participating in the Stamp Act Congress of 1765. Participation was limited to short notice and shortly after the Tea Party the other four agreed to support the work as well and the flag was changed to the horizontal thirteen stripes.
